Breaking Ground on Bigger Future: EMHCS Expansion Groundbreaking Celebration
Hamilton Stern was pleased to take part in the groundbreaking held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, for the Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School (EMHCS) expansion project. Rochester news networks, along with community members, stakeholders, board of trustees, administration, teachers, and students came out to celebrate this welcomed addition. EMHCS is the longest running charter school in Monroe County and serves around 1,000 bi-lingual, K-12 students.
Selected as construction manager, Hamilton Stern began construction this past summer. This project includes restoring a former church, located on the school grounds, into a three-story ninth grade academy, building a permanent two-story home for grades 10-12, and creating a new Section V gymnasium—bridging the buildings to form a connected campus. With this expansion, the school will have room to serve more 9-12 grade students. The project is expected to complete in fall of 2026.
The EMHCS expansion project represents a significant milestone for the company as the most sizable education project in contract value in Hamilton’s Stern history. Utilizing a design-build approach in partnership with SWBR, Hamilton Stern is excited to bring our expertise and passion for construction to help EMHCS build a foundation to believe, achieve, and succeed in a bigger future.
