Canal Commons

Located in the Susan B. Anthony neighborhood of downtown Rochester, NY, this project was a full historical rehabilitation and revitalization of a five-story former vacant manufacturing building into 123 affordable and supportive housing units, adhering to preservation standards. While significant structural repairs were uncovered and addressed, the project was completed ahead of schedule. Additionally, Canal Commons earned green certifications by utilizing clean building materials and energy-efficient features. This project was recognized with the 2024 Excellence in Historic Preservation Award from the Preservation League of NYS, the 2024 Sustainable Communities Redevelopment Project Award from the Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast, and the 2025 AIA Rochester Design Excellence Award.
